Here are few things that you need before filing a claim online.
Tracking or Label Number: A tracking number is a unique number which is allocated to each item which is shipped through USPS. Firstly, you need to find USPS tracking number
Proof of Insurance: An evidence or proof of evidence includes
- the original mailing receipt
- The outer packaging showing the names and addresses of the sender and the addressee
- the proper label showing that the article was sent insured
- A printed electronic online label record or a computer printout from the application used to print the label and purchase the insurance
Proof of Value: A proof of value is required in .jpeg or .pdf format under 2mb size. A proof of value includes a sales receipt, paid invoice, statement of value, credit card billing statement etc.
Damage Proof: If you have received a damaged package then take photos that clearly show the damage. For damaged claims, you’ll also need to provide an estimate of the repair costs from a reputable dealer. Keep the damaged package to yourself until the claim is settled.

To file a domestic claim, you need to follow the simple steps shared below.

- Login to your USPS.com account with your username and password. Register, if you don’t have an account and then log in.
- Enter your tracking number & shipping date to start a claim.
- Enter the package information and the reason for your claim.
- Enter the address information and claim details.
- Describe the items that were lost or damaged. You can ass up to ten items per claim.
- Select the reason for filing a claim.
- Upload proof of value, only .pdf and .jpg files under 2 Mb size can be uploaded as attachments).
- Give the claim a nickname to identify it easily.
- Now you can either “Save a Claim” or Choose “Preview” to submit a claim.
- You must review the claim properly before submitting it.
